Nude Beach in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand
About 800 m of white sand in the Ocean Grove reserve, 7.6 km south-east of central Dunedin, and the city's closest beach for discreet nude bathing; popular with surfers. Rip currents are a known hazard. Yellow-eyed and little penguins and New Zealand sea lions use the beach: keep your distance from them. New Zealand has no official nude beaches: the law targets obscene exposure and offensive behaviour, and courts have held that simple nudity on a beach where it is known to occur is not offensive. Be discreet and considerate.
