Allans Beach
Nude Beach in Otago, New Zealand
Quiet, 1.9 km white-sand beach on the Otago Peninsula at the mouth of Hoopers Inlet, about 6 km from Portobello; its seclusion makes it a favourite with naturists, surfers and walkers. A track across farmland leads from the end of Allans Beach Road. Fur seals, sea lions and yellow-eyed penguins come ashore here: keep at least 10 m away, 20 m from active sea lions. New Zealand has no official nude beaches: the law targets obscene exposure and offensive behaviour, and courts have held that simple nudity on a beach where it is known to occur is not offensive. Be discreet and considerate.
