Orpheus Bay
Nude Beach in Huia, Auckland, New Zealand
Quiet, south-facing beach near the Manukau Heads in West Auckland, named after HMS Orpheus, wrecked at the harbour entrance in 1863. Naturists use the eastern (left) end. Reached by a track from the road to the Huia Point lookout; there are no facilities. Do not sit under the cliff at the far end, where rock often falls. New Zealand has no official nude beaches: the law targets obscene exposure and offensive behaviour, and courts have held that simple nudity on a beach where it is known to occur is not offensive. Be discreet and considerate.
