Wild black-sand beach on Auckland's west coast in the Waitākere Ranges, off Piha Road, with walking tracks to waterfalls and streams behind it. Listed by Free Beaches NZ among the west coast beaches used for skinny-dipping; it has become busier with day visitors, so pick a spot away from the access track. Strong surf and rips. New Zealand has no official nude beaches: the law targets obscene exposure and offensive behaviour, and courts have held that simple nudity on a beach where it is known to occur is not offensive. Be discreet and considerate.
