Nude Beach in Vancouver (UBC), British Columbia, Canada
Canada's best-known clothing-optional beach, below the University of British Columbia on the western tip of Vancouver, in Metro Vancouver's Pacific Spirit Regional Park. The clothing-optional shore runs for about 7 km from Acadia Beach round Point Grey to the Fraser River's North Arm, backed by forested cliffs and Second World War military towers. Nude use goes back to at least 1970, and the beach was formally recognised as clothing-optional in 1991. Steep trails with long flights of stairs lead down from Marine Drive; permanent toilets have been in place since 2012. The Wreck Beach Preservation Society (founded 1977) looks after the beach's interests. Busy and lively on summer weekends, wild and quiet the rest of the year.
