About 5 km of open sand on Bream Bay between Ruakākā and Waipū, 38 km south of Whangārei, and Northland's best-known beach for naturism. By custom naturists use the beach south of the Department of Conservation campground, which is the main access; nudity is not allowed inside the campground itself. Not patrolled by lifeguards. New Zealand has no official nude beaches: the law targets obscene exposure and offensive behaviour, and courts have held that simple nudity on a beach where it is known to occur is not offensive. Be discreet and considerate.
