Long-established clothing-optional stretch of the long surf beach east of Mount Maunganui in Tauranga, used by families as well. A boardwalk near Sandhurst Drive gives access; settle on the sand below the dune edge, not in the dunes, which police patrol. Complaints here have been handled through community meetings with the council and police. New Zealand has no official nude beaches: the law targets obscene exposure and offensive behaviour, and courts have held that simple nudity on a beach where it is known to occur is not offensive. Be discreet and considerate.
